George Takei (Born in 1937) and Brad Altman (Born in 1954): Sci-fi meets real-life ride-or-die romance
Before hashtags and pride parades became mainstream, George Takei and Brad Altman were quietly building a life together. George, forever legendary as Sulu from “Star Trek,” met Brad, a writer and fitness enthusiast, in the mid-1980s at a running club.
They officially became a couple in 1986 and were together for over two decades before getting married in 2008, making them one of the first gay couples to wed in California. They don’t have children, but their partnership has been rock solid. George is a vocal LGBTQ activist, and Brad has always been right beside him. They even competed as a team on “The Newlywed Game” in 2009 and won.
