Here’s the True Story Behind ‘The Blind Side’

Uncertainty About the School’s Reputation

Although the film showed Wingate Christian School as Michael’s high school, in reality, its name is Briarcrest Christian School. The school wanted to alter its name because the administration was worried that the movie, which initially depicted the teachers questioning his academic aptitude, might degrade the institution’s reputation.

Nevertheless, the talented footballer had not been at Briarcrest for long when various instructors began prompting him to leave. That’s perhaps because Michael wasn’t just failing at tests, but he barely knew how to begin them. Yet, in the end, the movie’s director, John Lee Hancock, decided to keep everything else the same, even the school colors.
