Someone Finally Took Control

The ER doors swung open as Hana charged in, her voice slicing through the late-night hush. “We need help—now!” Heads turned, but one man stepped forward without flinching. He wasn’t in scrubs. A dark vest, mud-splattered boots. A vet. Someone had called the right person.

Without hesitation, he motioned them forward. “Lay them here,” he said, pointing to the exam tables. Hana hovered, unwilling to back away. But the vet looked her straight in the eye. “I’ve got this. Step out for now.” She almost pushed back—almost. But she saw it in his face: he wasn’t guessing. He knew what he was doing. She followed Peter to the waiting room.
