The animal shelter buzzed with noise—barking, chatter, the rustling of restless paws. The Johnsons moved through the crowded aisles, searching for their ideal dog. It had to be more than a pet, but a protector. Then they saw him. Nyx, a towering Cane Corso, sat quietly in his kennel, his deep brown eyes locking onto theirs. Something about him felt different.
“He was abandoned nearby,” Tom, a shelter worker, said. “But he’s a gentle giant.” Pat, his co-worker, added, “He loves other humans, and he’s already trained.” The Johnsons didn’t need convincing. This was what they needed and they weren’t leaving without him.
