The Grim Reaper Tried, But These Famous Faces Said Hell No

John Astin – Born in 1930

Few actors have made eccentricity look as joyful as John Astin. He shot to fame in the 1960s playing the lovable, wild-eyed Gomez Addams on “The Addams Family.” With his mischievous smile, dashing energy, and offbeat humor, he turned the role into pure TV magic.

Before that, he appeared in “West Side Story” and worked on stage and screen, building a solid reputation as a versatile character actor. In 1968, he even earned an Oscar nomination for directing the short film “Prelude,” proving he was more than just a one-liner king. Later, he returned to his roots in “The Addams Family” specials and lent his voice to animated versions.
