Most people remember Michael Gross as the lovable dad, Steven Keaton, from “Family Ties,” the sitcom that dominated the 1980s and made household names out of its cast. His calm, easygoing energy balanced the show’s chaos and gave it heart. But just when fans thought they had him figured out, he flipped the script entirely.
In 1990, he picked up a gun rack and some serious paranoia as Burt Gummer in “Tremors.” The monster-fighting survivalist became so popular that he went on to star in every sequel and even a TV series. Before all that, he earned his acting chops on stage, winning an Obie Award for theater in 1982.
