The Grim Reaper Tried, But These Famous Faces Said Hell No

Max Baer Jr. – Born in 1937

Max Baer Jr. became a TV legend in 1962 when he stepped into the boots of Jethro Bodine on “The Beverly Hillbillies.” His hilarious take on the dim-witted but lovable nephew turned him into one of television’s most unforgettable comedy icons. But when the show wrapped in 1971, the Hollywood doors didn’t exactly swing wide open.

Instead of giving up, he got creative. In 1974, he wrote, produced, and starred in “Macon County Line,” a surprise box-office hit that proved he was more than a one-note actor. Beyond that, he turned his business sense into gold by licensing “Hillbillies” slot machines and planning themed casinos.
