Robert Duvall – Born in 1931

Robert Duvall didn’t need flash or big speeches to own a scene; his presence did the talking. After minor roles in the 1960s, he achieved stardom as Tom Hagen in “The Godfather,” where his calm, calculating energy made him an unforgettable character.
A few years later, he traded the suits for fatigues in “Apocalypse Now,” giving us the iconic line about loving “the smell of napalm in the morning.” By 1983, he showed a whole new side in “Tender Mercies,” playing a broken country singer that earned him an Oscar. Never one to play it safe, he wrote and directed “The Apostle” in 1997, proving his storytelling genius.
