The Grim Reaper Tried, But These Famous Faces Said Hell No

Burton Gilliam – Born in 1938

Some Hollywood careers start with years of auditions. Burton Gilliam started with a lucky break and a lot of personality. While working as a firefighter in Dallas, he answered an open casting call for the movie “Paper Moon” in 1973.

That small gig led him straight to one of the most talked-about comedies of all time, “Blazing Saddles,” where he played the quick-tempered cowboy Lyle. The role turned him into one of those faces everyone recognized, even if they couldn’t always place the name. Over the years, he appeared in “Back to the Future Part III,” “Honeymoon in Vegas,” and numerous TV shows, including “The A-Team.”
