Tyla turned the 2024 Met Gala into her art installation with a custom Balmain gown sculpted entirely from sand and micro-crystals. Yes, sand. The strapless creation hugged her body perfectly before trailing into a mermaid-style train, and because it was so delicate, she had to be physically carried up the stairs like some mythical desert goddess.
She completed the surreal look with an hourglass clutch and sand-like makeup dusted on her shoulders. She shot to fame with her 2023 breakout hit “Water,” becoming the first South African solo female artist in over 50 years to crack the Billboard Hot 100.
