Marc Jacobs, 2012
Why wear a tux when you can cause a fashion meltdown in lace? For the 2012 Met Gala, Marc Jacobs arrived in a sheer black lace dress layered over bright white boxer shorts. He finished the look with socks, pilgrim-style shoes, and a clutch bag, looking completely unbothered by any fashion rules.
The dress was from Comme des Garçons, and when asked why he wore it, he simply said, “Because I didn’t want to be boring.” He is one of America’s most prominent fashion designers, known for shaping Louis Vuitton from 1997 to 2014 and running his successful label, Marc Jacobs.
