The Adversities in Childhood
‘The Blind Side’ does delve into Michael Oher’s problematic past, but it has missed important details. That may be due to time limitations or because some of them would be inappropriate for PG-13 audiences. Just as the film shows, Michael was indeed homeless with 11 brothers and sisters, who never got the familial assistance they needed while growing up. His mom struggled with addiction, and his father was assassinated.
Besides, there were other obstacles on his way, including unemployment, starvation, and irregular school attendance. Naturally, the chances of becoming successful were not in favor of young Michael. Still, he was determined to avoid living the same fate as his mother.
