One afternoon, Greg glanced out the window and froze. A large German Shepherd splashed in the pool, its claws scraping along the liner. His heart sank. Rushing outside, he found the children giggling around the dog. A young boy sheepishly admitted it was his family’s pet. Greg felt betrayed but tried to stay calm as he issued an ultimatum: no more dogs or no more pool for anyone.
The boy nodded, looking ashamed. But Greg knew something had shifted. His dream retreat felt threatened, and the laughter that once filled him with pride now sounded like trouble. He wondered if his kindness had been mistaken for weakness.
