Angela Merkel and Joachim Sauer – 23 years
Angela Merkel and her second husband Joachim Sauer met while they were studying at the Berlin Academy of Sciences. The spark jumped over, and a decade later the two stood in front of the altar. The couple has now been married for over twenty years and it looks like they have found a partner for life.
Sauer is a quantum chemist and a bit camera shy. He doesn’t push himself to the fore and, like his wife, makes a rather reserved and calm impression. Some hobbies the two share are opera, and hiking in nature.
