Beverly Cleary started as an author of children’s books back in the ‘50s. Before that, she worked as a librarian after finishing her studies at the University of Washington. She had the idea to start writing children’s books as she noticed that there was a dearth of writings about characters that young readers could relate to.
This led to her domination of the American fiction category as millions of readers became her avid fans. She has sold more than 91 million copies of books around the world. They’ve been published in 25 different languages and she’s received multiple awards, honors, and recognition for her work like Ramona and Her Father and Dear Mr. Henshaw.
