A Forgotten Place
Anyone could tell the warehouse had been abandoned for a while. Inside was dusty; old tags covered the walls, and discarded materials lay in heaps. Nyx’s posture changed. He sniffed the air, ears twitching. “These things have been here for years,” Mr. Johnson muttered, running a hand over a faded tag.
Emma crouched, picking up a clump of fur. “This doesn’t look like Nyx’s.” Ethan flipped through a crumbling book. “No answers here either.” Then they walked further in and saw them—large, sturdy cages. “These weren’t built for regular animals,” Mr. Johnson said, shining his flashlight.
Grace’s stomach tightened. “Why would someone just leave this behind?”
